What the story is about:
"After feeling a strange presentimient during the last hours of her workday at the academic support center, Susana decides to wait for one of her students, María Isabela, who was late for an exam, which ended up being rescheduled at the last minute. Unable to reach her or receive any news of her whereabouts despite her attempts, Susana decides to go home after waiting for her until after work hours. To her surprise, just as she's giving up hope, she runs into the missing student just outside the center. Upon seeing her, she realizes she's wearing a bloody wound on her leg and a very dirty school uniform. It is at this moment when María Isabela tells her about a series of misfortunes that ended up causing her delay, which trigger a series of events where both manage to connect emotionally, and which allows Susana to express a painful and repressed part of her life and personality, causing the relationship between them to transform in an unexpected and explosive way, within intimate, passionate and sensual moments."

Hello, hello, beautiful readers, I want to present to you today the English translation of my first written short story: "Thank You for Waiting..." Woohoo! 🤩🥳🥰🤓. I wrote this English version on my own, thanks to the wonderful feedback from a very beautiful and angelic person 😇, who gave me the idea and the push.
ResponderBorrarTo be honest, at first I wasn't too keen on the idea of doing it myself, because in my mind the result would end up being very crude 😒, meaning the translation itself would end up having a basic quality in terms of style. I felt it would lose a bit of that character or personality I seek to give it with my more informal Latin Spanish style, especially because of the more "criollo" references and terms I use, which are quite native to here in Venezuela. Also because my English level isn't THAT expert, or at least not enough to translate literary works... But I can tell you, despite everything... it didn't turn out that bad 😌. I'm very content with how it turned out, and that's why I decided to share it with you all.
I also did this for an international audience and to make it more accessible outside of Latin or Hispanic culture. Many of the "criollismos" aren't translated, but the written narration of the story essentially maintains the same flow and structure as the original Spanish version.
I'm thinking of trying to work on a translation for my second written story as well 🤔, although that one is a bit more of an arduous task 😓, because it's different from this one in some ways. The narrative style is one of them, and in that case I would rather work on it in a more professional way, doing it with someone who has more experience working on literary translations from Latin American Spanish to English, and somehow understands the "spirit" of the narration in Venezuelan Spanish, or the significance of what I mean when I use certain cultural or socio-economic references in dialogues or events and knows how to translate them into English phrases and words while maintaining the informality in my style, since this is very important for me to maintain, because my ideal with these stories is also to express my inspiration and appreciation for those things in my culture with which I identify a lot, and to celebrate them too... But hey, who knows, this might be for the future, hahaha; for now I will remain motivated to continue working more on my stories. ✊⚡
